Facial Physiotherapy

Injuries to the facial nerve can cause facial weakness on one or both sides of the face. This can affect communication, function, and facial expressions.

Specialised Facial Physiotherapy can help with advice and treatment strategies for managing acute weakness and secondary complications such as over-activity and synkinesis.

Facial Physio encompasses an in-depth assessment of the activity in your facial muscles. You will then be provided with an individualised exercise programme comprised of stretching, massage and/or movement re-training exercises.

Some of the common causes of facial weakness are outlined below

  • Bell's Palsy

  • Ramsay Hunt

  • Acoustic Neuroma (Vestibular Schwannoma)

  • Brain injuries
