What is the vestibular and balance system?

To maintain balance, the human body relies on input from the environment. This comes from your vision, vestibular system and joints. The vestibular system is a balance organ that is located within the inner ear. If affected, it can lead to dizziness, loss of balance and/or falls.

How can Physiotherapy help?

Vestibular Physiotherapy provides specific exercise programmes to help overcome ongoing dizzy symptoms. This can range from gaze stabilisation exercises, canal repositioning manoeuvres and movement desensitisation exercises. 

An important component of vestibular rehabilitation is balance physio. A multi-factorial balance assessment is completed and rehabilitation is provided to improve balance, falls risks and co-ordination.
